| Avoiding heartache through understanding the home development process |
|
| Building a home can be an extremely daunting and challenging process and most often, when asked whether the experience was a pleasant one, most people will respond with the phrase "never again!". This is a very sad inditement against an |

industry that is as old as civilisation itself. We at Stedone Homes don't believe that this needs to be the case. Building your dream home, from plan concept all the way through to handover of your keys, should be one of the most satisfying things you can ever do in your life.
So where does it all go wrong?
The start of the problem is vested with you, the potential client. The lack of understanding of the complexity and costs of the various aspects of the development of a complete home is often used by contractors as a method to convince people to go with a cheaper build, which does not factor in the complete home development costs. Understandably, building contractors can argue that they usually do not have any responsibility over costs that are not part of a typical building tender quote. People however still insist on accepting quotes which are communicated on the basis of "I can build your home for under R5000/sqm" In other words, by understanding the conclusive costs* of your home development upfront, this is a substantial move in the right direction, in order to avoid heartache and the associated financial pain!

A second key factor which leads to people having a bad experience, is their attitude and approach towards the home build. A modern upmarket signature home is a "hand made" product. There is an enormous amount that can and does go wrong, which requires remedial action during the construction phase of a luxury home. (On the other end of the scale, a 40sqm starter home is able to be duplicated with ease, with a client and builder knowing exactly what to expect from every home built). For this reason, you need to make sure that whoever is building your signature home has the experience and capability to work closely with you and the professional team to ensure that the home build is managed effectively.
At Stedone Homes, we have made it our core company mission, to be transparent and informative with regards to the complete home building process. Our Development and Interior Design managers are highly skilled individuals who are able to guide you through the entire building process.
I encourage you to avoid the trap, come and talk to us.

Another completed home on Simbithi Eco Estate by Stedone Homes.
The number 13 maybe unlucky for some but not for Stedone Homes, yes the second completed Package home for 2011 was handed over to Mark and Sharmain Norton on Friday the 13th of May. This couple resides in Mozambique but decided to build a “Home from home” when they were expecting their 1st son Josha. Definitely a great place for the grandparents and family members to enjoy time with Mark, Sharmain and Josh. With spectacular views and tranquil surroundings this up market home is going to be another feather in Stedone Homes cap!
Well done to Graham Mockridge and his team!

Boston MTB Challenge
Hi there,
Firstly thank you Stedone Homes for the cycling kits you have provided for me. They're great and it's a privilege to represent the brand!
I took on the 50km race at the Boston MTB Challenge, it felt like 53km of pure hills, but it was a great ride and was worth all the effort as I came 1st place in the ladies and then top 10 overall of the other 160 riders.
It was a fun day overall for the riders and families who all came to offer their support and enjoy the day's festivities, I'm looking forward to the Compendium MTB Race on 28th May, wish me luck and I hope to see you there!

Kids Vegetable Garden
There's nothing better than growing your own vegetables and growing veggies is easy compared to other plants and makes for great education for children as well encouraging them to eat them!
Cucumber and carrots are great starters and all you need is a pot, (see the newspaper pot below) and some seeds. Visit your local nursery with your children and encourage their enthusiasm by letting them choose what they would like and tend to them together. Not only is it educational but it saves you money and makes for healthy eating for the kids - a double result.
And don't forget kids love digging, so when it's time to dig those up the potatoes and carrots - it's like digging for buried treasure so it can become quite an adventure.

Newspaper Pots
Organic plant pots are the best way forward for your small plants and leave no clutter in your garden or shed. They can be put close together and the pot will gradually break down into the ground.
To make a newspaper pot all you need is: Newspaper, a can, your favourite seeds along with some organic soil.
Fold your paper around the can, the top and bottom of the can must be removed so it's just a cylinder, fold the paper flat together at the bottom and pour the soil into the can and then remove the can. Without soil the shape of the paper will collapse in a few seconds. This is also what makes the pot steady. Plant your chosen seeds and place the pots in the ground and after that all you do is water it. A newspaper pot will start to decompose in just a few weeks. Leaving you with fresh, organic veggies or fruit.
